Weeks 4 and 5: shop

Once names are out, people need about two weeks to find and buy a gift. Remote groups need more, because shipping can take a week. Encourage wishlists and use anonymous chat. Tell people the ship-by date: for a Dec 18 swap, ship by Dec 8.

Week 6: swap and reveal

  • Send a reminder a week before the date, plus a quick check on the day.
  • Make a place for gifts to be dropped.
  • Prepare a reveal. See reveal ideas.
  • Take a moment to thank everyone.

If you start late

If it is already December, compress it. Send the invite today, close sign-ups in 3 days, and draw right after. Use a lower budget, digital gifts, or a theme that is easy to shop for. Read how to organize a Secret Santa for the quick version.
